For this course to go ahead a minimum of
5 attendees are required.
- Age Restrictions:
The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level providing the knowledge and practical competence to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.
- Learning Outcomes:
Unit One:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive.
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
- Additional Information:
Unit Two:
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joint.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds.
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning.
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis.
- Assessment Information:
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration, oral questioning, and written assessment. A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment. Learners pass or are referred.
- Certification:
Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded an accredited Level 3 certificate in Paediatric First Aid at Work. The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive that the learner attends annual refresher training.
