Evac Chair

The minimum classroom contact time of 4 hours.
A maximum of 6 students are allowed.
The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over but a learner cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.

In the event of a fire, responsibility for evacuating the premises falls to the employer. In the event that colleagues or customers need to be evacuated downstairs (lifts must never be used in the event of fire) a system must be in place to assist wheelchair uses, or those with limited mobility, swiftly and safely down the stairs and out of the building. This course explains the need for and use of evacuation chairs, with ample demonstration and practice.

Evacuation chairs enable trained personnel to assist wheelchair users and other disabled staff or customers to escape from upper floors of buildings when lifts not available, e.g., in the event of a fire. This vital piece of equipment allows employers to comply with both the Disability Discrimination Act and Fire Regulations by enabling rapid, safe evacuation of all staff in the event of an emergency.
