This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards. FAA are an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual and the qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The FAA Forestry First Aid qualification is designed to accompany a First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and meets the requirements of the Forestry Commission First Aid at Work Policy.
This qualification has been designed to provide the knowledge and competence for a learner to deal with emergency first aid situations in a forestry/agricultural environment and covers the recommended topics stated in the Forestry Commission First Aid policy 2015.
A range of subjects is covered including:
• Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
• Be able to assess an incident.
• Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty.
• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking.
• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock.
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
• Know how to deal with a first aid emergency remote from medical assistance.
• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with catastrophic bleeding.
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a crush injury.
• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty suffering from the effects of extreme cold.
• Know how to provide first aid for a casualty suffering from Lyme disease.
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration, oral questioning, and written assessment. A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment.

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded an accredited Level 3 certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry. The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive that the learner attends annual refresher training.
